Caprese Salad with a Twist

My older daughter does not like tomatoes

but loves the other components to a Caprese salad. The basil and most importantly the fresh mozzarella.

There have been some other delicious ideas that we've tried, nectarines to be one of them.

That was a delicious replacement for the tomato but those are out of season now.

What Could I use.... this evenings choice , a red pear.

A red pear is a bit drier, heartier and not quite as sweet as the green varieties.

It was delicious!

Taking a piece of the tendar ripe pear, a sizable piece of the fresh basil and a large enough piece of the soft and yummy mozzarella on your fork and wow.

Such a combination. My mouth is still pleased.

Such a simple, beautiful looking and tasty salad (side dish)

Recipe 1 large heirloom or your favorite tomato ( the plate fed 3 of us)

Bunch of fresh basil (washed and dried well

fresh mozzarella ( I used pre-cut pieces here but could also cut your own or use

bocconcini (small mozzarella balls)

drizzle of balsamic vinegar

drizzle of extra virgin olive oil

dash of pepper

I used a smoked sea salt from Hawaii (I know exotic)

but a

flaked sea salt or sea salt would also be great)

Being creative with food is so much fun,

just need to be adventurous!
